About this site

Action Central was established in 2003 as an outgrowth of the retouching forum on dpreview.com. Several participants in that forum posted images based on actions they had created. Others asked for copies and provided email addresses. Developers ended up having to send 50-60 emails, proving once more than no good deed shall go unpunished.

This seemed a problem in search of a solution, so in November, 2003, Photoshop® user Jim Lewis established this website as a means of exchanging free actions. Developers like Feivel, Danny Raphael, Dave Jaseck, and Mike Warren responded, and recruited people like Bud Guinn to cross-post existing actions.

There are now over 170 actions on the site. Over 50,000 visitors come here each month. From web statistics, we believe this is the most popular site for free Photoshop® actions in the world.

Everything on the site is free. Some of the developers ask for a contribution to support their efforts, as do we. You are free to use these actions in your work, amateur or professional, but you are not free to repackage these actions as your own work or cross-post them elsewhere without permission of the action's developer.

There are sites out there that have harvested entire sections of this site and presented them as their own. If you see that, please let us know. And let them know that you know what they're doing.
